Self-employed businesses have played a vibrant role in stimulating the recovery of economic growth since the start of this year, as is evidenced by the increase of over 10 thousand unique small stores in Nanjing in the first quarter, according to data released by Meituan.com.

The bamboo desks and chairs and elegant bouquets of flowers, the store"s decoration style is a showcase of the owner"s self style. Called "Chunhe Coffee", this small shop that opened at the end of March has become the starting point for two post-90s girls to start their businesses.

“When I traveled to Nanjing during my college years, I had a particularly good impression of Nanjing. My partner is from Jiangsu, so the two of us hit it off at once. I have always been engaged in coffee business, and the atmosphere of advocating coffee in Nanjing makes me feel that there is great potential,” saidZhuang Huaiyu, a store owner.

Entrepreneurship is easier said than done. When choosing the location for the store, the two felt the heat brought by the economic recovery.

“At that time, we were unsure what kind of store to choose. The housing agent suggests that once we have a plan in mind, we should quickly make a reservation. If you are not sure, the store will soon be booked by someone else,” said Zhuang.

During the May Day holiday, the café had to postpone its closing time from 8 pm to 10 pm. In the first month of entrepreneurship, they achieved profits by receiving over a thousand orders, giving the two new entrepreneurs more confidence.

“We still want to do more to promote new products through a stable period of one to three years, and we hope to open a branch,” said Qiu Yi, a store owner.

According to statistics provided by Meituan.com, the small stores opened in Nanjing in the first quarter included convenience supermarkets, fast food restaurants, and coffee shops.

“We will provide small stores with support and business guidance for the characteristic small stores we cooperate with, and other measures to help them better and quickly carry out online operations,” said Ma Le, Director of Public Affairs, Meituan Jiangsu Region.
